A social media content retainer is a monthly agreement where an outside production team plans, shoots, edits and delivers your content on a fixed schedule instead of one project at a time.
That is the short answer. What follows is what actually arrives each month, who does the work, and how many hours it costs your team.
Final Cut Multimedia has produced video in Charlotte since 2005. 500+ projects, a 4.9 Google rating and 115+ verified reviews. Monthly Content Creation is our version of the retainer, and it is the product described here. Call 704-491-1283 or email info@finalcutmultimedia.com.
Key Takeaways
- A retainer buys a schedule, not a single video.
- Your team does 4 things: 1 planning call, name the people and places, work normally on shoot day, send 1 round of feedback.
- We handle the calendar, crew, gear, site paperwork, editing, captions and per platform exports.
- Every shoot runs a minimum 2 person crew, and cards are backed up on location before anyone leaves.
- 2 tiers: Monthly Content Creation is the full retainer, Social Media Monthly is the lighter content only version.
- Charlotte, NC since 2005. 4.9 Google rating, 115+ verified reviews.
What a Social Media Content Retainer Actually Is
A retainer is an ongoing agreement with a production team. You pay monthly. In exchange, content gets planned, filmed, edited and delivered on a repeating cycle that somebody else owns.
The scope is agreed at the start. The calendar is ours to maintain. Nothing waits on a purchase order or a new negotiation every time you need a video.
How It Differs From Booking One Off Shoots
A one off shoot is a project with an end date. You get a video. Then the relationship stops until someone on your side starts the next conversation, which usually happens 6 months later when a deadline forces it.
1 expensive brand film in March does nothing for you in September. Audiences do not remember a company for a single polished piece. They remember it because it keeps showing up.
- Predictable output. Something new is always in the pipeline, always scheduled, always in the edit.
- A growing library. Every shoot day feeds weeks of publishing and leaves clips your sales and recruiting teams can pull from later.
- A crew that learns your business. By month 3 the briefings mostly stop and shoot days get faster.
- No scramble. Your marketing lead stops asking what we are posting this month, because the answer already exists.
What Arrives Every Month
A month on Monthly Content Creation delivers a package, not a single file. The exact mix depends on your plan.
- 1 longer anchor piece, built from interviews.
- Several short vertical cuts, shot vertical rather than cropped from horizontal.
- Captioned versions of everything.
- Still photography pulled from the same shoot day.
- Aerial footage where the site warrants it.
- Files organized and delivered ready to publish.
1 shoot day produces all of it. We are already on site, already lit and already set up, so the second and third deliverable do not require a second booking.
How Our Retainer Runs, the 5 Steps
The same 5 steps every month. Predictability is the point.
- Discovery call. What the video is supposed to accomplish. Recruiting, sales enablement, explaining a technical product, filling an event. Everything else follows from that answer.
- Pre-production. We set the month’s plan, confirm people and locations, and build a schedule around your operating hours. Site rules, access windows and certificates of insurance get handled here, not on shoot morning.
- Production. A minimum 2 person crew arrives early and works around you. Interviews in a controlled space, coverage shot while your business runs. Cards are backed up on location before anyone leaves.
- Post-production. Story assembly, edit, color, sound mix, graphics and captions.
- Delivery. Every deliverable exported for where it is going, organized and ready to post. Then we start planning the next month.
Who Is on Set
The same people come back every month, which is the difference between a retainer and a staffing agency.
Tyrell Scott, our owner and executive producer, is usually on site running lead camera. Charles Canady, our production director and lead videographer, leads shoots as well. Jane Caillio runs operations, scheduling and client experience, so you have 1 person to call rather than a shared inbox.
Every shoot runs a minimum 2 person crew. 1 person cannot light an interview, run audio and shoot coverage at the same time, and the footage shows it when they try. We have been working this market as a video production company in Charlotte NC since 2005, across construction, healthcare, legal, financial services, real estate and automotive.
What Your Team Has to Do
This is the part most people want spelled out, so here it is plainly.
- Take 1 planning call at the start of the engagement.
- Tell us which people and locations we can access on shoot day.
- Show up and do your normal work while we film around it.
- Watch the first cut and send feedback in 1 consolidated pass.
That is it. Realistically a few hours a month from 1 person.
Everything else sits on our side: the content calendar, scheduling around your operating hours, crew and gear, site paperwork and certificates of insurance, editing, color, sound mix, captions, graphics and per platform exports.
Name 1 decision maker on your side. Feedback that arrives from 4 people in 4 emails is the single biggest cause of delay in this business, and it is entirely avoidable.
In House vs Hiring Per Project vs a Retainer
All 3 models produce video. They do not produce it at the same reliability.
| What It Takes | In House | Per Project | Retainer |
|---|---|---|---|
| Who plans the content | Your staff, on top of their real job | Nobody between projects | We do, every month |
| Crew on shoot day | Usually 1 person | Varies by vendor and booking | Minimum 2 person crew |
| Gear and software | You buy and maintain it | Included in the project | Included, nothing to own |
| Who knows your business | Your team does | A new crew each time | The same crew every month |
| Output rhythm | Strong for 6 weeks, then it slips | Bursts with long gaps | Continuous by design |
| Effort from your team | Ongoing, and it grows | Heavy at every restart | A few hours a month from 1 person |
| What happens in a busy quarter | Video is the first thing dropped | The next project never gets booked | The schedule runs anyway |
In house fails on consistency, not on talent. Somebody gets handed video on top of their real job, it goes well for 6 weeks, then a launch lands or a person leaves and the tripod ends up in a closet. Nobody notices immediately, which is exactly why it is always the first thing dropped.
How We Build the Edit
The edit is where a shoot day becomes usable, and it is the part clients most underestimate.
We build the story from the interviews first. Words before pictures. If the words do not hold together, no amount of footage fixes it. Then we cut coverage over the top, grade the color, clean and mix the audio, add graphics and captions, and export in the formats each platform actually wants.
Vertical is cut vertical. It is not a horizontal video squeezed into a frame it was never shot for. That difference reads in 2 seconds and it is the tell that separates real production from a resize.
- Pacing and structure so viewers finish rather than scroll.
- Clean audio, because bad sound loses an audience faster than bad picture.
- Captions on everything, since most social video plays silently.
- A consistent look across months, so the library reads as 1 brand.
Same standard applies to the lighter tier. See what that looks like on our content for social media page.
How to Tell It Is Working
Measure in tiers, and do not skip to the bottom one in month 1.
1. Engagement
Watch time, how far people get before they leave, comments, shares and saves. This moves first because it only depends on the content itself.
2. Traffic
Clicks through to your site, and what people do once they land. A recruiting video should send people to a careers page, not your homepage, and the behavior there tells you whether the piece attracted the right person.
3. Conversions
Calls, form fills, applications, booked appointments. This is the tier that pays for the program, and it is the slowest to read because it depends on your follow up as much as our footage.
There is 1 more signal, and it is the honest one. Ask your sales and recruiting teams whether the conversations changed. When a candidate arrives already knowing who they would be working with, or a prospect quotes something back from a video before the first meeting, that is the program working. It shows up in the room before it shows up in a dashboard.
Monthly Content Creation vs Social Media Monthly
Full pricing, program levels and monthly deliverable counts are on our Monthly Content Creation page. Programs start at $2,000 a month.
2 tiers, because not every business needs the same volume.
| Monthly Content Creation | Social Media Monthly | |
|---|---|---|
| Best for | Companies using video across recruiting, sales and marketing | Companies that mainly need the social output |
| Scope | The full retainer, planning through delivery | Lighter, content only |
| Anchor piece | Yes, interview driven | Focused on short form |
| Short vertical cuts | Yes | Yes |
| Captions | Yes | Yes |
| Stills from the shoot day | Yes | Depends on the plan |
Both tiers have custom packages to choose from. We scope it on the discovery call, after we know what the video is for.
Proof: Crown Auto Group
Crown Auto Group runs 3 locations, Ashley Road in Charlotte, Rock Hill in South Carolina and Whiteville in North Carolina. They are on Monthly Content Creation. We function as their in house media department without the overhead of one: inventory photography, monthly video, ad scripts, social posting, review management and 1 monthly report ownership can open any time.
From January through August 2026, tracked across all 3 lots:
- 2,937 phone calls to Crown locations.
- 15,641 clicks through to Crown’s website.
- 221 Google reviews completed by real customers, from 355 review requests we sent on their behalf.
- 70.4% of those requests were opened and clicked. 62.3% turned into a published review.
The full numbers, month by month and lot by lot, are in the Crown Auto Group case study.
A single commercial is a moment. A monthly content partnership is momentum.
Where to Start
Start with 1 shoot day. Fresh footage of your own people and your own sites immediately replaces recycled posts, and a monthly rhythm keeps you from ending up back there.
The discovery call covers your goals, your audience and your timeline, and we come back with a plan. Call 704-491-1283 or email info@finalcutmultimedia.com.
